“These are some notes I made for the lore of the comic “The Eye of the Portal” that I was doing in a comics class. It is updated compared to the original Blogger post!” – Nk

Fissure Ecosystem’s introduction
There is a fissure that has joined this universe with another. It is not known since when, how, or why. All we know, is that it consists of the following sectors:
- The Gateways
- The Meadow
- The Remains
- The Labyrinth
- The Hallway
- The Portal
- And The Other Side
The Gateways
Those are “hidden entrances” found in different parts of the universe, but suspiciously most are on Earth. To get to one, you’ll have to walk specific steps in specific directions. So unless you know what you’re going into, you’re likely to just walk into one by accident.
You will know you have passed one when you feel like you are going around in circles, when there is no noise, and when the moon or sun disappears. From here, there are already scattered eyeflowers, so you have to follow carefully if you know where you are.
The Meadow
No matter where you arrive, they all connect to the Meadow. The Meadow is a silent plain, full of eyeflowers and inffected living beings. Falling there is a unavoidable death.
But if you already have an eyeflower devouring your individual, you don’t have anything to lose, so you can come down and walk around.
If you manage to cross the Prado’s plain, you will encounter “The Remains” of… creatures? in various layers.
The Remains
This is a part “inside” of the Meadow, where you can access by both climbing and excaving, depends of the part of the Meadow you’re looking, for some reason. As a parasitized, you may feel safe down/up there, but don’t let your guard down, because you can accidentally “fall” into the Labyrinth.
The Skin
The ground of the Meadow looks like earth until you reach the center, where a distinct drop-off reveals the reality: the entire path you have traversed is, in truth, skin. A thick layer of skin—tens of meters deep—that dips down at the center. Yes, the skin is not merely “in the middle” of the Meadow; it has always been there—it is simply that, in this section, ceases to be covered by eyeflowers.
The Veins
If you continue moving forward, the skin will peel open, exposing giant, hollow veins through which you can easily walk. Some of the red parasitized use them as shortcuts to reach other parts of the Meadow; so, if you are a human and don’t know where they lead, it is best not to take the risk.
The Bowels
The entrails are a cluster of massive organs—primarily intestines—that descend and tangle together. If you venture too deep, some of them may “shift position” without you realizing it. The best thing you can do is leave a rope or something similar as a guide. Do not rely solely on marks on the “floor,” as they will simply disappear.
The Bones
If you manage to escape the Bowels, you will surely encounter “The Bones”—a space just before the Labyrinth that resembles a forest. This is the last point where you can turn back with the “assurance” of making it back.
The Labyrinth
This is a dangerous place for everyone.
In a few words, it’s like entering a board of Snakes and Ladders: you may end up elsewhere on the Meadow, on Earth, in Space, or worse, in the Hallway. It’s even worse if you have an eyeflower, because it distorts your vision for making you fall on purpose.
The Hallway
The Hallway is the direct “entrance” to the Portal, where once you arrive there is no human way to return. It is said that, at this point, you can see the other Universe and the heinous creatures that inhabit it. No one comes back alive, human or eyeflower… or well, no one but Ǐ̴̫̮̾̈́̾̈́̆̈́͒̕-̵̧̤̯̟̗̯̙͖̇.
The Portal
This is the true and only fissure. Despite appearing to be several portals, in reality only one connects to the other world. The one that looks like an eye, observing our universe, a world that they should never have known.
Also, eyeflower’s seeds constantly come out from the Portal. Many of them fall into the Labyrinth and are never seen again. Others, finish their germination before falling, and settle in the Meadow, where they can spend years waiting for a living being to fall.
Human Records about The Portal
As expected, this phenomenon did not go unnoticed by human curiosity, which has been observing the ecosystem since ancient times.
The first recorded Gateway in history, is located in a desert called Azalea: Prodosia, an ancient civilization, believed that it was the house of their gods, leading them to protect that “divine” place. However, at present, Prodosia (now a country) has spent a significant part of its investments and scientific research to find a way to close it, while hiding it thanks to “Abiprea”, an apparently biological association.
Unfortunately for them, more and more Gateways have recently been discovered in different parts of the Earth. Some, dangerously close to cities. Of course, such a dangerous place has been hidden by all countries, so knowing of the mere existence of eyeflowers has become the equivalent of believing in ghosts, witches, etc.
Let’s just hope it stays that way until they find a way to close that Portal.
